You don’t have to travel far from The Courtyard to be entertained and enthused. If history is your bag, then we have plenty of heritage sites as well as beautiful historical estates with amazing gardens and grounds, quirky little towns and even the odd rock concert or two in our local forest!

5.Ness Botanical Gardens

Voted Large Attraction of the Year 2008 at the recent Visit Chester and Cheshire Tourism Awards, these outstanding botanic gardens overlooking the Dee Estuary contain the finest collection of rhododendron and azaleas in the Northwest, one of the best known heather gardens in Britain, and an outstanding collection of Himalayan and Chinese plants.
They also boast a magnificent herbaceous border, specimen shrubs and herb garden containing all the major culinary herbs. The rose garden shows how roses have developed since the late 1700s.

Norton Priory Museum & Gardens is a fantastic day out; with an award winning museum, excavated medieval ruins, the spectacular St Christopher statue, the lovely Walled Garden and the extensive woodland and sculpture trail.
They have a wide ranging events programme throughout the year, with great events and activities for visitors of all ages.
Norton Priory is a world-class community museum, which aim to entertain, educate and involve people through their collections, site and gardens.

7.Tatton Park

8.St Laurence Church, Overton, Frodsham
A Saxon chapel, on the site of the current church, was recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086. The present church has a 12th century nave and a 13-14th century choir and tower. The church in medieval times also served the communities at Kingsley, Norley, Helsby, Alvanley and Manley.
From Helsby, follow the A56 into Frodsham centre.
Turn right at the traffic lights onto Church Street (B5152).This road goes up a hill and out of the centre of the town. You need to take the fourth road on the right, which is Church Road. St Laurence Church is down here on the right and the car park is on the right just after the church.

9.Chester Cathedral
Chester Cathedral has a rich and fascinating heritage.
It is a living community of prayer and worship, a centre of excellence in Church Music, and plays a key role for the Christian community across Chester, the Wirral and Cheshire.
The buildings are a major tourist attraction in Chester, a city of historic, cultural and architectural importance. The cathedral is also used as a venue for concerts and exhibitions.

10.Frodsham Medieval Market Town 1209-2009

Frodsham is a quaint market town two miles away from The Courtyard. During 2009 Frodsham celebrated its 800th anniversary of being a borough.

It has some lovely independently owned shops as well as a selection of contemporary-style bar/restaurants, take-away food shops and pubs. There are butchers, bakers, flower shops, clothes shops, chemists, coffee bars and much more. Don’t forget to check out Castle Park Arts and Visitor Centre in Castle Park House and gardens or take a stroll up the ancient and beautiful Frodsham Hill, situated just outside Frodsham in Overton village.
